Jersey Airport.
Standard 3 Baggage Screening Upgrade & Ongoing Engineering Support.
Sector: Aviation
Location: Jersey, Channel Islands
Services: Baggage Handling Systems · Hold Baggage Screening · Project Delivery · Installation & Commissioning · Engineering Maintenance & Technical Support
From Major BHS Upgrade to Ongoing Engineering Partnership.
I-S-Solutions (UK) Ltd's relationship with Jersey Airport began with the delivery of a major Standard 3 Hold Baggage Screening upgrade, requiring the redesign and modification of the airport's existing baggage handling infrastructure to accommodate new screening requirements while improving wider baggage operations.
ISS's scope encompassed mechanical design, manufacturing, equipment supply, BHS modifications, installation and site/project management, with the proposed solution making use of suitable existing airport equipment wherever practical.
Successful delivery of the project established a strong working relationship between ISS and Jersey Airport. Since then, our involvement has continued beyond the original upgrade, with ISS providing ongoing baggage handling engineering, planned maintenance and technical support across critical airport systems.
01
THE CHALLENGE
Upgrade Jersey Airport's baggage handling infrastructure to accommodate Standard 3 hold baggage screening within the constraints of the existing BHS and operational airport environment.
02
ENGINEERING THE SOLUTION
Assess the existing installation and develop a solution that retained suitable existing equipment while integrating new conveyors, screening arrangements and BHS modifications.
03
PROJECT DELIVERY
Mechanical design → Manufacturing → Equipment supply → Installation → Project & site management → Testing & commissioning support → Verification → Handover

THE RELATIONSHIP TODAY
An ongoing engineering partnership encompassing planned maintenance, system inspections, BHS modifications, equipment replacement and technical support.
The Standard 3 Upgrade.
The introduction of Standard 3 screening requirements represented a significant change for airport baggage handling operations, requiring existing systems to accommodate new hold baggage screening technology while continuing to process baggage safely and efficiently.
At Jersey Airport, ISS supported the integration of the upgraded screening equipment into the existing baggage handling infrastructure.
The project required careful coordination between baggage handling equipment, screening technology, controls and associated mechanical systems, with installation and commissioning activities planned around the requirements of an operational airport.
ISS provided the engineering and project delivery expertise required to bring these elements together and support the upgraded system through to operational readiness.
Delivering Within a Live Airport Environment.
Airport infrastructure projects present a particular engineering challenge: major modifications often need to be completed while existing operations continue around them.
Throughout the Standard 3 project, ISS worked closely with Jersey Airport and other project stakeholders to coordinate engineering activities, manage interfaces between systems and minimise disruption to airport operations.
Testing and commissioning formed a critical part of the delivery process, ensuring the newly integrated equipment and associated baggage handling systems operated correctly before entering operational service.
Building a Long-Term Engineering Relationship.
The Standard 3 project marked the beginning of a wider relationship between ISS and Jersey Airport.
Since completion of the upgrade, ISS has continued to provide specialist engineering and technical support across the airport's baggage handling infrastructure.
Our ongoing involvement has included:
Planned preventative maintenance of baggage handling equipment
Conveyor and mechanical system inspections
Fault identification and technical assessment
BHS modifications and component replacement
Vertisort conveyor maintenance and replacement works
Fire curtain inspection and replacement
Testing and commissioning
Ongoing engineering and technical support
This continuity gives our engineers an established understanding of the airport's systems, equipment and operational environment, allowing potential issues to be identified and addressed efficiently.
Proactive Maintenance & System Reliability.
Our ongoing support at Jersey Airport includes planned inspections designed to identify developing equipment issues before they result in operational failures.
Recent inspections of the airport's Vertisort conveyor equipment, for example, identified belts approaching the end of their serviceable life and presenting an increased risk of failure.
ISS subsequently developed the replacement scope, covering the supply, removal and installation of replacement belts together with tensioning, functional testing and commissioning.
This preventative approach allows maintenance requirements to be identified early and engineering works to be planned around airport operations, reducing the risk of unexpected equipment failures.
One Engineering Partner. Continued Support.
What began with the Standard 3 Hold Baggage Screening upgrade has developed into an ongoing engineering relationship between ISS and Jersey Airport.
From major baggage handling projects and system modifications to preventative maintenance, equipment replacement and technical support, our continued involvement provides Jersey Airport with access to specialist engineers who already understand its systems and operational environment.
It demonstrates the approach at the heart of ISS: delivering the project, understanding the system and remaining available to support it throughout its operational life.
