The Standard 3 Upgrade.

The introduction of Standard 3 screening requirements represented a significant change for airport baggage handling operations, requiring existing systems to accommodate new hold baggage screening technology while continuing to process baggage safely and efficiently.

At Jersey Airport, ISS supported the integration of the upgraded screening equipment into the existing baggage handling infrastructure.

The project required careful coordination between baggage handling equipment, screening technology, controls and associated mechanical systems, with installation and commissioning activities planned around the requirements of an operational airport.

ISS provided the engineering and project delivery expertise required to bring these elements together and support the upgraded system through to operational readiness.

Delivering Within a Live Airport Environment.

Airport infrastructure projects present a particular engineering challenge: major modifications often need to be completed while existing operations continue around them.

Throughout the Standard 3 project, ISS worked closely with Jersey Airport and other project stakeholders to coordinate engineering activities, manage interfaces between systems and minimise disruption to airport operations.

Testing and commissioning formed a critical part of the delivery process, ensuring the newly integrated equipment and associated baggage handling systems operated correctly before entering operational service.

Building a Long-Term Engineering Relationship.

The Standard 3 project marked the beginning of a wider relationship between ISS and Jersey Airport.

Since completion of the upgrade, ISS has continued to provide specialist engineering and technical support across the airport's baggage handling infrastructure.

• Fault identification and technical assessment

• BHS modifications and component replacement

• Vertisort conveyor maintenance and replacement works

This continuity gives our engineers an established understanding of the airport's systems, equipment and operational environment, allowing potential issues to be identified and addressed efficiently.

Proactive Maintenance & System Reliability.

Our ongoing support at Jersey Airport includes planned inspections designed to identify developing equipment issues before they result in operational failures.

Recent inspections of the airport's Vertisort conveyor equipment, for example, identified belts approaching the end of their serviceable life and presenting an increased risk of failure.

ISS subsequently developed the replacement scope, covering the supply, removal and installation of replacement belts together with tensioning, functional testing and commissioning.

This preventative approach allows maintenance requirements to be identified early and engineering works to be planned around airport operations, reducing the risk of unexpected equipment failures.

What began with the Standard 3 Hold Baggage Screening upgrade has developed into an ongoing engineering relationship between ISS and Jersey Airport.
